The objective of this course is to provide graduate students with the knowledge base and analytical skills necessary to follow the rapidly expanding field of molecular neurobiology. This will be accomplished by an in depth introduction to the technologies currently used, followed by a series of lectures and discussions on the recent use of molecular approaches to answer fundamental questions in neurobiology. Special emphasis will be placed on the rationale and limitations of current technology, and will focus on specific experimental designs which have been used to address fundamental questions relating to normal brain function and to neuropathological conditions.

The course will focus on substantive topics in pharmacoepidemiology, including relevant principles of pharmacology, pharmacoepidemiological research protocol development, description of health care databases used for research, premarketing pharmacoepidemiology, and pharmacoepidemiology contribution to pharmacy practice. The course will also focus on issues in pharmacovigilance, including the legal and historical basis of pharmacovigilance, evaluation of individual adverse drug events, signal detection, active safety surveillance, and medication errors.
