The University awards Master's and Doctoral degrees to those students and scholars who have completed all the respective requirements.
Master's Degree
Candidates must have studied in the Graduate School for at least four semesters in residence obtaining at least 24 credits with an overall average of 3.0 or better and a thesis. Students must pass the Qualifying Examination in English and in the subject of their major before they are allowed to write their theses. Thesis for the degree must be submitted by the designated date in November for February graduation and May for August graduation. The evaluation of the thesis and the oral examination will be done by a Committee composed of three professors. The thesis will be considered satisfactory if it is approved by two-thirds of the Committee.
Doctoral Degree
The students who have the Master degree can are eligible for Doctoral degree. For the Doctoral degree, students must complete 36 credits. They must also pass the Qualifying Examination in the candidate's major field. When they pass the Qualifying Examination, students are allowed to write their Doctoral dissertations. Evaluation will be made by a Committee consisting of five professors. An approval by four-fifths of the Committee is mandatory. Students in the Doctoral degree program must be full-time for at least four semesters.
The students who do not have Master degree can apply for Doctoral degree through the M.S./Ph.D. course. In this course, students do not need to write their thesis for the Master degree, but must complete 60 credits during this course and pass the Qualifying Examination in the candidate's major field. When they pass the Qualifying Examination, students are allowed to write their Doctoral disserta-tions. Evaluation will be made by a Committee consisting of five professors. An approval by four-fifths of the Committee is mandatory. Students in the Doctoral degree program must be full-time for at least seven semesters.
