Dr. Yoo’s research interests are in developing novel drug delivery devices that shepherd therapeutic cargos through target disease sites in safe and effective manners. His laboratory conducts research on fabricating advanced drug carriers such as micro- and nanoparticles that are designed to have multi-functionalities that facilitate desirable particle-cell interaction in the body. In particular, Dr. Yoo focuses on how particle shape, which is an emerging particle design parameter, affects drug delivery processes including drug release, targeting, cellular uptake and intracellular trafficking. Dr. Yoo’ laboratory is also involved in nitric-oxide (NO) releasing nanoparticle systems that have a broad spectrum of potential clinical applications, such as cancer, medical devices (to prevent restenosis, thrombogenesis, and bacterial adhesion), wound healing, and blood flow abnormalities.
